Following the release of his prison the former advisor was appointed to the president at the time Rene Preval. He then was a senator in the by- election for Nippes department however, he wasn’t elected. He was then, in the end elected Senator for the Nippes department during the general election of starting on 26 April , and up to the time when he was reelected by the Senate to be the president of the Senate. He was also president of the Senate Committee on Economy and Finance.
Privert was elected by the Senate as the provisional President of Haiti on 14 February , pending a general election in no more than days.A general run-off election date was later agreed between Jovenel Moïse and Jude Célestin was originally scheduled to be held on 24 April , but the Conseil Electoral Provisoire decided on 5 April to hold a new election in early

Jocelerme Privert, né le 1er février à Petit-Trou-de-Nippes, est un homme d’État haïtien. Il a exercé, du 14 février au 7 février , les fonctions de Président provisoire de la République d’Haïti. Avant d’accéder à cette importante charge politique, il était surtout reconnu comme un technocrate, avec une expérience de près de quarante (40) ans dans l’administration publique haïtienne.
Jocelerme Privert vient d’une famille modeste. Il a été élevé, en partie, par sa grand-mère maternelle ; Privert est le nom de famille de sa mère. Il a trois (3) sœurs et deux (2) frères. Il a complété ses études primaires dans sa ville natale sous le regard de sa grand-mère et est rentré à Port-au-Prince en pour poursuivre ses études secondaires. Il a effectué des études universitaires dans les domaines suivants :
