Iris Interview: Jason Carter of Babylon 5 (, USA)
The Iris&#; Johnny Au speaks with Jason Carter ahead of the Armageddon Expo in Melbourne. Jason is best known of his role as Ranger Marcus Cole in the Sci-fi series Babylon 5.
What inspired you to get into acting in the beginning?
I had been fortunate enough as a teen to be cast as &#;The Artful Dodger&#; in a school production of Oliver. The teacher who directed the play was a consummate actor himself, and played the role of Fagin. This experience, coupled with seeing Peter O&#;Toole in the wonderful film The Ruling Class &#; which I stumbled across watching TV whilst babysitting at a neighbor&#;s house &#; definitely sowed the seeds to audition for Drama School.
Are there any roles you&#;ve played that you think should have receive/deserved more attention?
I played &#;Repo Demon&#; out to collect Gunn&#;s soul in an episode of Angel &#; &#;Double or Nothing&#;. A four and a half hour full prosthetic makeup, interlocking teeth. I thought I did a good job. The producers said I would be back but I never got the call. I know every actor has these stories but it was my first time &#;under the rubber&#;, having

Born in London and brought up in Gainsborough, a small market-town in Lincolnshire, Carter appeared on stage since he was a child. Advised to pursue a career in rubber technology, Carter opted instead for three years at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Artist In , he landed his first television role on BBC2’s long-running Jackanory (–) as Hawkwing.
He has appeared in numerous television series including Viper, Beverly Hills, , 3rd Rock from the Sun, Charmed, Angel and Babylon 5.
He also played the hedgehog, Hans, in an episode of the television series The Storyteller. Carter also loaned his voice briefly to the James Bond video game GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, in the role of Bond.
He also appeared in the film By Way of Helena.

Graduating in after a three-month tour of Holland and Belgium playing Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet", Jason pursued his craft in a variety of roles. High points include playing Macbeth at Chichester Festival Theatre, three long runs in the London West End: "The Sleeping prince" with Omar Sharrif, Simon Gray's "Melon" with Alan Bates, Simon Gray's "The Common Pursuit" directed by the author, and Steven Berkoff's Royal National Theatre production of Oscar Wilde's "Salome". In British television, Jason starred in two series, a mini series, a number of TV movies and numerous guest star roles.
