I love horror. I didn’t always. When I was a tot I was horrified by horror movies. Our babysitter had Dark Shadows on one day and there was a severed arm floating around trying to strangle people. I cried. I was 4. The babysitter hugged me and covered my eyes, but kept the show on. I peeked through her fingers. I cried more.
Jump to junior year of college at University of Michigan. My friend Elyse and I wanted to see ‘Poltergeist.’ I knew it was a scary movie, but it looked ‘fun scary.’ We went to the Liberty Theater and found out that ‘Poltergeist’ was sold out. The guy behind the box office glass said, ‘You could see John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ instead. It starts in fifteen minutes.’ So we bought tickets, fully planning to use these tickets to go into the ‘Poltergeist’ theater. But our devious plan was rudely thwarted by an usher who pointed out that our tickets were not for ‘Poltergeist’ but for ‘John Carpenter’s The Thing’ which was in theater three.
