Acclaimed Taiwanese songwriter Liu Chia-chang died of cancer on Monday (Dec 2). His death was confirmed by his assistant on Tuesday.

His family released a statement saying, “it is with great sadness for us to announce that our beloved ‘teacher’ has succumbed to cancer on Dec 2.”
The statement also detailed that his family was with Liu in his final moments and that he passed away peacefully.
According to the statement, a low-profile funeral is in the pipeline. Liu's family asked for the understanding of friends and the media to allow them to handle this privately.
Liu reportedly composed more than 2, songs in his storied career, many of which were hits.
Classics like Meilan Meilan I Love You, Dream Behind The Curtain, Seagull, Where Is My Home and Memories Can Only Be Reminisced were composed by Liu for A-list Taiwanese singers Fong Fei-fei, Liu Wen-cheng and YuYa.

It read: “Teacher’s life was filled with music and love. His talent and effort resulted in many works of art which have accompanied and touched countless people. In this difficult time, our family would like to thank everyone for their concern and support.
“In his last days, Teacher was with his closest family and was in a state of peace. His smile and warmth still stay in our memories. We understand the love people have for him, but out of respect for our family’s privacy, his affairs and funeral will be handled in a quiet and simple manner.”
Liu had reportedly discovered a lump in his neck, and found tumours in both his brain and lungs, after a February trip to Hong Kong.

Last week, Liu Chia-chang’s assistant confirmed his death in a statement to Taiwanese media, saying he was with his family in his final moments and that he passed away peacefully.
Though the statement noted that his funeral will be handled in a “low-profile and simple manner”, Jeremy Liu shared on Facebook on Sunday (Dec 8) that he had information on the date and location of the ceremony and would reveal them if he didn’t get confirmation.
The year-old said that he had privately enquired about the funeral, which is in Taiwan, so he can bid farewell to his dad, but faced challenges getting verification from Liu Chia-chang’s assistant.

The news of his death was revealed by Hong Kong veteran entertainment reporter and programme host Wong Manling, who wrote that he died in Taipei aged 81 in an Instagram post yesterday (Dec 3).
In the post, she also shared that the composer had been diagnosed with cancer, writing:
"On Feb 8, , he was in Hong Kong to apply for an identity card. His friend was in the queue with him and Chia-chang was in good spirits. After that, he noticed a big lump on his right neck. After examination, he was found to have growths in his brain and lungs and underwent chemotherapy."
Manling added that when contacted by a friend, Chia-chang's eldest son had confirmed his death but had yet to make an announcement.
"He has a last wish, which is to hope that everyone would sing the song Wo Shi Zhong Guo Ren (I am Chinese), which was composed by him. Rest in peace!" Manling stated.
