Er produzierte unter anderem das meistverkaufte Klavier-Solo-Album aller bisherigen Zeiten: "The Köln Concert" von Pianist Keith Jarrett. Und das als ein Labelchef, der besonders die leisen und die ganz langsamen Töne schätzt. Manfred Eicher ist Gründer des Münchner Erfolgslabels ECM. Diese Woche erhielt er den Bayerischen Staatspreis für Musik - eine von vielen bedeutenden Auszeichnungen. Am 9. Juli wird der in Lindau geborene Musiker und Produzent 80 Jahre alt.

ECM Records, acronimo di Editions of Contemporary Music, è un&#;etichetta discografica fondata nel a Monaco di Baviera da Manfred Eicher, un produttore tedesco con un background musicale classico. La fondazione
La nascita di ECM Records avvenne in un periodo in cui il jazz stava evolvendo e cercando nuove direzioni. Manfred Eicher, dopo aver lavorato come assistente di produzione per la Deutsche Grammophon, decise di applicare gli alti standard di registrazione che aveva appreso alla musica improvvisata. Vor 50 Jahren gründete der in Lindau geborene Kontrabassist, der zunächst bei den Berliner Philharmonikern den Bogen führte und dann in die Szene der Jazz-Avantgarde abtauchte, das Münchner Schallplattenlabel ECM. Zusammen mit dem Diskografen Manfred Scheffner und dem Kaufmann Karl Egger wollte der damals jährige Eicher vor allem eines: ein Klangbild für Jazzaufnahmen entwickeln, das in Transparenz, Farbigkeit und dynamischer Differenzierung den Aufnahmen klassischer Kammermusik entsprach. Pianisten wie Mal Waldron, Paul Bley und Wolfgang Dauner gehörten zu den Allerersten, die mit ihrer Abkehr vom Mainstream-Jazz ein Zuhause bei ECM fanden, einem Label, das sich bis heute seine Sensibilität für Klänge bewahrt hat, die abseits des Gewohnten und Gewöhnlichen liegen.
