generation (generation adjacent to my generation), then of the third generation
(generation adjacent to the second generation).

Below is a partial list of some of the companions of the Prophet (saas). Their lives remain a source of inspiration for the later generations of Muslims, including today’s.

Invocation 28 from Morning and Evening Invocations is known as:

Sayyiduna ‘ABD ALLAH B. ‘UMAR’S رضي الله عنه ENCOMPASSING SUPPLICATION:

O Allah, I ask You for security in this world and in the Hereafter.

O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and security in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and keep me safe from the things which I fear.

O Allah, guard me in my front, my back, my right, my left, above me, and I seek in You greatness from receiving unexpected harm from below me.

Ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنه said:

‘The Messenger of Allah would not leave these prayers in the evening and morning:

O Allah, I ask You for security in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and security in my religion…”’

Reported by Abu Dawud, ; an-Nasa’i, 8/; Ibn Hibban, Mawarid, who graded it Sahih; al-Bukhari in Al-Adab al-Mufrad and others.

Imam an-Nawawi said in al-Adhkar, that its chains were sahih.

Lineage of Amr ibn al-As

Amr ibn al-As, a member of the Qurayshi tribe from the Banu Sahm clan, was the companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He was the son of Al-As ibn Wa'il and belonged to the Hashim clan, which descends from Sa'id ibn Sahm ibn Amr ibn Hasays ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ay ibn Ghalib. He was commonly known as Abu Abdullah, although some say his kunya was Abu Muhammad.

Physical Description of Amr ibn al-As

Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) was described as having a short stature and prominent eyes. His eyes were intensely dark, with a striking whiteness surrounding the iris. The space between his eyebrows was wide, and it is said that he used to dye his hair black.

Islam of Amr ibn al-As

The Islam of Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) was delayed compared to other companions - may Allah be pleased with them - because, like many leaders of Quraysh, he held onto the religion of his forefathers despite believing in the truthfulness of the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) message.

Persisting in their obstinacy against the Prophet (peace be upon him) was a common stance adopted by the elite of Quraysh, among whom was Am

His mother was Zainab bint Madhun. He had accepted Islam before he was ten years old and had made the Hijrah (migration to Madinah) with his father and his sister, Hafsah (R.A.), who was later to become a wife of the Prophet (S.A.W.). Abdullah bin Umar (R.A.) is known to be famous reporter of the Sayings (Hadiths) of the holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and early jurist of Islam.

From an early age, Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) demonstrated his keenness to be associated with the Prophet (S.A.W.) in all his undertakings. Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A.) was not included in Battle of Uhud and Battle of Badr due to young age. However, when the Battle of the Trench approached, Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) called Ibn Umar (R.A.) and allowed him to be a part of Muslim Army as Prophet (S.A.W.) decreed that he was old enough to participate the in the battle. Abdullah Ibn Umar (R.A.) was fifteen years old at the time of Battle of Trench.
