عمر اکرم (Omar akram)نوازنده و آهنگساز آمریکایی افغان تبار می باشد. پدر وی از دیپلماتهای کشور افغانستان در سازمان ملل متحد بود.عمر اکرم، شش ساله بود که پیانو را نزد یکی از استادان موسیقی در پراگ، مرکز جمهوری چک آموخت. این استاد عمر را با آثار موسیقیدانان بزرگ جهان مثل، باخ، بتهوون، موتسارت چایکوفسکی و دیگر بزرگان موسیقی آشنا ساخت.
مسافرت عمر با خانواده به کوبا صفحهٔ دیگری از جهان موسیقی را بر روی او گشود. عمر اکرم چهارده ساله بود که اولین اثر هنری خود را ساخت. اولین البوم عمر اکرم به نام "Opal Fire" در سال ۲۰۰۲ از طرف شرکت معروف امریکایی بنام رییل میوزیک (Real Music) به بازار عرضه شد که مورد توجه زیاد شنوندهها قرار گرفت. این آلبوم در آن سال در میان موسیقی امریکا، مقام هفتم را گرفت.

Born in New York, Afghan-American Omar Akram grew up the son of a United Nations diplomat, living in France, Czech Republic, Switzerland, his ancestral home of Afghanistan and Cuba, where as a teenager, he had a memorable encounter with Fidel Castro.
The artist’s piano-driven, instrumental music elegantly defies borders and has played a crucial role in defining modern New Age and World Music. His songs have millions of plays on YouTube, and his first two albums, Opal Fire () and Free As a Bird (), hit the Top 15 on Billboard’s New Age chart. In , he became the first Afghan-American to win a Grammy Award with Echoes of Love. In , he also released Daytime Dreamer, presenting an enchanting blend of World, New Age and Electronica music.
