Eagles Songwriter Jack Tempchin Revisits &#;Slow Dancing&#; With Rita Coolidge: Exclusive Video Premiere

Eagles songwriter Jack Tempchin has teamed up with Rita Coolidge for a duet of his classic hit &#;Slow Dancing,&#; which he wrote more than 40 years ago. 

The song arrives with a music video, which Billboard is exclusively premiering below, showing couples of all ages &#;swayin&#; to the music,&#; just as the lyrics suggest.

&#;Slow Dancing&#; was first released by Tempchin&#;s band the Funky Kings on their self-titled album. The next year, Johnny Rivers released a version under the title &#;Swayin&#; to the Music (Slow Dancin&#;)&#; that went gold. Olivia Newton-John, Unicorn and many others have also famously released covers.

The song is from Tempchin&#;s new album Peaceful Easy Feeling – The Songs of Jack Tempchin and is available for instant-grat download with pre-orders of the project.

The album is out Aug. 25 and pays tribute to Tempchin&#;s late songwriting partner and friend Glenn Frey, with Tempchin&#;s own versions of a dozen popular tracks.

イーグルス（Eagles）解散後のGlenn Freyとは、長らく彼のソロ活動の、ソングライティングのパートナーでもあります。

60年代末頃からロサンゼルスのクラブなどでシンガー・ソングライターとして活動。この時期に彼は無名時代のグレン・フライやJ.D.サウザーと知り合いになり、この縁で年のイーグルスのデビュー・アルバムに彼の書いた「Peaceful Easy Feeling」が収録されることに。74年にイーグルスにもう1曲「Already Gone」を提供。ジュールズ・シア、リチャード・ステコルと共にファンキー・キングスを結成し、年にアリスタからデビュー。ファンキー・キングスの第1弾シングルはテンプチン作の「Slow Dancing」。このシングルは大した成功を収めなかったものの、後にジョニー・リヴァースが「Swayin' To The Music」と改題してカヴァーし、全米10位まで上がるヒット。ファンキー・キングスはアルバムを1枚だけ発表して解散、その後、テンプチンはソロ・シンガーとしてそのままアリスタと契約し、78年に初ソロ・アルバム『Jack Tempchin』を発表。このアルバムには「Peacefull Easy Feeling」の自演ヴァージョンも含まれています。80年代に、テンプチンはグレン・フライとソングライティング・コンビを組み、フライのソロ・アルバムの収録曲を殆ど二人で作っています。楽曲の中から「Smuggler's Blues」や「You Belong To The City」がヒット・チャートを賑わしました。イーグルスの再結成盤『Hell Freezes Over』にも二人の共作曲「The Girl From Yesterday」が収められています。また、彼がロブ・ストランドランドに書き贈った「One More Song」は年にランディ・マイズナーがカヴァーし、その曲名アルバム・タイトルに据えていますし、そのアルバムではもう1曲テンプチン作の「White Shoes」を収めるなど。

Tempchin and Frey having a not-so-peaceful easy feeling

Long time before either became world-famous, Jack Tempchin and Glenn Frey were friends. It’s a friendship first sparked back in when Frey, then a member of the duo Longbranch Pennywhistle with J.D. Souther, spent a San Diego night at Tempchin’s big house and candle factory, a beloved hippie crash pad. Two years later at his friend Jackson Browne’s Los Angeles home, Tempchin played Frey a new song he’d written, “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” about a waitress in El Centro. So enthralled was Frey by the tune that he recorded it on cassette tape, telling Tempchin that he’d formed a new band eight days earlier, and wanted to play it for them. Tempchin&#;s reaction: “Whoa, yeah!”

That band was the Eagles. The next day Frey returned with a recording of the Eagles singing this song. Hearing that track with those now-iconic Eagles harmonies blew his mind. “It was,” he said, “the best thing I had ever heard.” He already knew Frey was a fine solo singer, but had no clue about his greatness as an arranger and harmony singer. Jack Tempchin has written some memorable songs. He wrote "Swayin' To The Music (Slow Dancing)", which was a hit for Johnny Rivers. He wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and co-wrote "Already Gone" for The Eagles. He would go on to write with Glenn Frey of The Eagles.
