Almost everyone is familiar with two of the most positive role models in film – Mary Poppins and Maria von Trapp. While Dame Julie Andrews is well known for her portrayal of these two outstanding women, few may realize the extent to which Dame Julie lives up to the ideals and courage exhibited in these two roles. Most of us are very familiar with Julie Andrews the performer – but we may not be as familiar with Julie Andrews Edwards, author and advocate.

Julie has achieved the highest professional acknowledgements in the performing arts, amongst which were

What did your parents do?

He taught practical crafts and English and math. My mother remarried when I was about four or five years old, so I then went to live with my mum and stepfather, and he was a fine tenor, he had a singing voice. He was from Canada, from Toronto. He joined forces in more ways than one with my mother in that she was a really wonderful pianist and probably should have been a performing concert pianist but, in fact, due to circumstances and the wa
