Acting career
Grodin’s early notable roles included an obstetrician in “Rosemary’s Baby” () and the navigator, Aarfy, in “Catch” (). In , his starring role in “The Heartbreak Kid” raised his profile as a skilled comedic actor with a gift for deadpan, and it earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Grodin went on to play well-received supporting roles in movies including “Heaven Can Wait” (), “Seems Like Old Times” (), “The Great Muppet Caper” (), &#;The Lonely Guy&#; (), and “The Couch Trip” (). Early life
Grodin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Orthodox Jewish parents Lena, who worked as an assistant in the family's store and was a volunteer for disabled veterans, and Theodore Grodin, who sold wholesale supplies. His maternal grandfather was a Russian Jewish immigrant who came from a long line of Rabbis and moved to Pittsburgh at the turn of the 20th century. Grodin has an older brother, Jack. Grodin attended the University of Miami, but did not graduate. His first acting role was in a Broadway production of Tchin-Tchin. He made his film debut in an uncredited role for Disney's film 20, Leagues Under the Sea. In , he began working as an assistant to director Gene Saks.
Career
Grodin, a student of Lee Strasberg and Uta Hagen, began appearing on several television series during the s including The Virginian, and played an obstetrician in the horror film, Rosemary's Baby. During the late s, he also co-wrote and directed Hooray! It's a Glorious Dayand All That, a Broadway play, and directed Lovers and Other Strangers and Thiev

Charles Grodin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in His parents were orthodox Jewish immigrants from Russia. Grodin's father, Ted, was a wholesale distributor, and his mother, Lana, assisted him in his business while also volunteering at a veterans' hospital. Charles had an older brother.
Theatrical Debut and Acting Training
Grodin made his acting debut on Broadway in the play "Tchin-Tchin." He honed his craft under the tutelage of legendary acting teachers Uta Hagen and Lee Strasberg, proponents of the Stanislavski Method.
