Early Life
Born (June 6 ) into the family of Mr. Gabriel Kumuyi Akinfenwa, Comfort Idowu Kumuyi Akinfenwa, an Anglican family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria, he completed his secondary school education in , and in started teaching mathematics at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun-State, from where he proceeded to the University of Ibadan and in graduated with a first-class honours degree in mathematics. Though he grew up as a church boy with Christian parents in his early days, he lost interest in Church at some points in his life.
He has this to say:
I grew up in a very strict Christian home, he told Isaacson, “We would get up in the morning, read the Bible, sing hymns, and go to church regularly. When I went to secondary school I lost interest in the church because our principal taught us atheism. But after a while I thought again and started going to various churches in town.

Biography
William Folorunso Kumuyi was born 6 June Kumuyi was born into a Christian family in the Nigerian town of Orunwa, in Ogun State. He finished his secondary school education in at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun State. He then went to the University of Ibadan, where he earned a first-class honours degree in Mathematics in and was named the year’s overall best graduating student.
He then went on to the University of Lagos for a postgraduate programme in Education. In April , he became a born-again Christian.
John Wesley, Charles Finney, and Charles Spurgeon influenced Kumuyi. His father was a devout Anglican priest. Kumuyi was also “a one-time member of the Anglican Church (now Anglican Communion), Celestial Church of Christ, Scripture Union (SU) movement, and Apostolic Faith before breaking away to create Deeper Life.”

Kumuyi began teaching mathematics at his alma mater, Mayflower School, in He became a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos in the early s.
