Anané Vega has the crowd in the palm of her hands, the same ones that introduce the next sequence of sonic fuel. Her crowd’s fiery dancing is reignited and a sea of raised hands begins to clap in ritualistic unison. Her music choices are unexpected, yet beautifully curated. The scene is oddly spiritual and miles away from where the night’s commander began her journey of self-discovery.
Anané Vega was born in Cape Verde’s capital city of Praia, located on the island of Santiago, to a Portuguese father and a Cape Verdean mother. Cape Verde, a former Portuguese colony, is located off the western African coast. During the time when Cape Verde was fighting for its independence against Portugal, her family was unexpectedly uprooted after they received death threats because of their Portuguese ties, thereby forcing Anané and her family to unwillingly vacate the island. The story of Anané Vega, known to the music world simply as Anané, is one of inspiration, love, art and music. Hailing from Praia, Santiago, in the island nation of Cape Verde off the coast of West Africa, Anané and her family were uprooted from her home during a time when the country was fighting for its independence against Portugal. Like millions of others from around the world, she and her family eventually relocated to the US in search of a better life.
In , Anané ultimately headed to NYC with a one-way bus ticket, a bag of clothes, $ to her name and a dream. After stints in modeling, dancing and acting, she soon launched her career in music. She made her grand entrance via her debut album, Ananésworld, released in on Nervous Records. After catching the DJ bug, Anané, who’s married to house music legend Louie Vega, was hooked.

A modern renaissance woman, Anané Vega is a DJ, dancer, producer, CEO, mother, and partner. As Vega declares in her bio on X, she represents “every strong woman out there doing her thang!!” And, throughout much of her career, Vega’s commitment to practicing yoga has been as constant as her presence on stages worldwide.
Vega was born on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, along the West Coast of Africa, where her childhood coincided with the country’s fight for independence from Portugal.
