Notes on release
Belgian multi-instrumentalist Rony Verbiest pays tribute to The American jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck. The album, which was Hans Kusters idea, was released right before Brubecks passing on December 5th in and encloses a nice selection from Brubecks repertoire.

DE ACCORDEONIST
Rony Verbiest overleed zondag 21 januari in zijn woonplaats Zelzate. Hij was daar geboren () en getogen. Hij woonde er met echtgenote, actrice en zijn muze Antje De Boeck.
Verbiest was bijna letterlijk in de wieg gelegd om muzikant te worden. Zijn vader was accordeonist en runde het vermaarde café De Accordeonist. Het werd Verbiest junior letterlijk met de paplepel ingegeven. Niet verwonderlijk dat hij als zesjarig jochie al als accordeonist optrad in de ouderlijke kroeg.
MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST
Daar lag het begin van zijn muzikale loopbaan, waarbij de muzikale wapenkamer zich niet langer beperkte tot de accordeon. Hij raakte gegrepen door de jazz. Drums, klarinet, saxofoons, bandoneon en ook de mondharmonica verruimden het speelveld. Verbiest ging naar de conservatoria van Gent en Brussel en onderscheidde zich daar in slagwerk, saxofoon en kamermuziek.
Tijdens zijn studies wordt hij gecontracteerd als saxofonist bij de Koninklijke Kapel van de Luchtmacht en later de Koninklijke Militaire Kapel van de Gidsen.
