Alberto Fernández-Tejada obtained his BSc in Chemistry from the University of La Rioja and continued his scientific pursuits by completing his PhD in Chemistry from the same institution. At this early stage in his career, he focused on the synthesis and conformational analysis of O-glycopeptides incorporating unnatural amino acids.
In , Dr. Fernández-Tejada moved to New York to join Prof. David Y. Gin’s lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) as a MEC-Fulbright postdoctoral fellow. There, he independently led a project on synthesizing and evaluating saponin-based vaccine adjuvants, specifically QS After Prof. Gin’s passing in , he continued his research under Prof. Samuel J. Danishefsky at MSKCC as a Marie Curie International Outgoing fellow, focusing on glycosylated proteins and carbohydrate-based anticancer and HIV vaccines. These research areas have since become core aspects of his scientific interests.
In , Dr. Fernández-Tejada transitioned to Prof. Jiménez-Barbero’s group at CIB-CSIC and CIC bioGUNE, concentrating on the conformational analysis of saponin variants. By late , he joined Prof. Ben Davis’s lab at the University of Oxford as a senior postdoctoral

Intra-European Fellowships
Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development (IEF)
Overview: The Intra-European Fellowship funds salary for a researcher (within Europe) for a period of years. It supports the career development, or restart, of experienced researchers at different stages of their careers.
The aim is to support researchers in attaining and/or strengthening a leading independent position, e.g. principal investigator. The action may also assist researchers to resume a career in research after a break. Each researcher will establish, together with her/his personal supervisor in the host organisation, a Personal Career Development Plan comprising his/her training needs (including transferable skills) and research objectives.
Key Eligibility Criteria: Open to researchers active in Member States or associated countries. Researchers must be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. Researchers must be at a stage of their career when they can benefit from a life-long training and career development. Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country o

For information on funding within the programme, turn to the dedicated Marie Curie staff at RSO.
The programme has opportunities for individual projects, research schools, the secondment of researchers and those working in innovation, the development of regional and national collaborations, and dissemination of research. The projects should lead to innovations for relevant players, with free access to scientific results. Training and education are important aspects of MCSA in addition to research.
MCSA consists of five actions, each with annual calls.
