Precis: "Fight"

In her poem &#;Fight,&#; Laurel Blossom asserts with a carefree tone and through usage of opposites and rhyme schemes that it is perfectly fine for friends or even a couple to not get along on certain issues because difference is what makes them unique. Throughout the poem, Blossom puts two clashing ideas together, such as &#;married&#; and &#;free&#;, &#;hot&#; and &#;cool&#; and much more to show how different two people can be.  One person likes to be more careful and hard working, while the other enjoys the pleasures of life. In its Spring, issue, Per Contrasays of Longevity: “Blossom's Longevityis a remarkable book, indisputable evidence that prose poetry, too, will make you ‘feel physically as if the top of [your] head were taken off.’ ”

Dreams are ways in which we can see what we sometimes don't want to see, where in some brief truce we might work out our human conditions. Blossom's book-length poem Longevity achieves such translation: bordering the longed-for and the ill-gotten, a speaker sorts out her survivorship: a sister, a mother, a dear one. This poem skirts 9/11, family, and the degradation of the body in time and illness, as 'Memory catches on the sprockets of grief.'
