His published books of poetry include Candy Coated Unicorns and Converse All Stars, Thirteen Fairy Negro Tales, The Wire-Headed Heathen, #Afterhours, and The Actual. He is currently touring Search Party,An Evening With An Immigrant and working on several commissions across stage and screen.
In graphic art & design, online and in print, he tries to mix the old with the new, juxtaposing texture and pigment with flat colour and vector graphics. BIOGRAPHY
Born in Nigeria, Inua Ellams is a poet, playwright & performer, graphic artist & designer. His first play The 14th Tale was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival and his fourth Barber Shop Chronicles sold out two runs at England’s National Theatre. He has been commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, Tate Modern, Louis Vuitton, BBC Radio & Television.
His poetry books include Candy Coated Unicorn and Converse All Stars published by Flipped Eye, The Wire-Headed Heathen by Akashic Books, The Half God of Rainfall by 4th Estate and The Actual by Penned in The Margins.
Other plays include Black T-shirt Collection and Three Sisters published by Oberon. Identity, Displacement & Destiny are reoccurring themes in his work, where he mixes the old with the new: traditional African oral storytelling with contemporary poetics.

Inua Ellams was born in Nigeria and is now based in the UK, where he has become one of the UK’s most recognised cultural icons. He is an internationally renowned poet, playwright, performer, graphic artist and designer. Dividing his attention across several creative mediums, Ellams writes with a level of urgency that has become characteristic of his style in all of his disciplines.
