Breath-hold world record by Bilge Clingigiray

The Longest Underwater Walk With One Breath (Female) record has been broken by Turkish freediver Bilge Clingigiray. She set the new Guinness World Record by covering a distance of m in one minute, breaking not only the record for women but for men too.

The attempt required one of the freediver’s feet to be touching the bottom of the pool at all times and besides a standard weightbelt, she carried a dumb-bell to maintain negative buoyancy.
Clingigiray set the original record in this category in when she covered m, but Russian freediver Marina Kazankova beat that distance later the same year.

The Turkish diver says it took two years’ training to be able to achieve her new record, increasing her original distance by almost 18% and beating the male record of m.
The event was open for public viewing at the A&#;ao&#;lu My World Club swimming pool in Istanbul.

Freediving comes with mortal risk, mostly for spearfishers and recreational athletes, but also for elite ones, as Natalia Molchanova’s death shows. Push too hard on the way down and you may suffer a “squeeze,” the lung tissue tearing as it is compressed, forcing you to cough up blood. It’s a remarkable feat; anyone (including professional freedivers) would acknowledge that a breath hold over seven minutes is extremely difficult. Most professional freedivers must train for years before reaching a number like that — many never achieve it. Winslet apparently trained only for a few weeks.
While Winslet now holds the record for a breath hold on a movie set, let’s put it in wider context. The current world record for breath holding, using a technique that is likely the same one the actor employed, is 24 minutes and 37 seconds. This is held by Budimir Šobat — a professional breath hold diver with whom I have worked closely.

An Australian freediver took a record-breaking walk along the bottom of a swimming pool.
Amber Bourke, from Queensland, walked further than the length of an American football field to bag the record for the longest underwater walk with one breath (female).
The year-old’s impressive record stands at m ( ft 2 in).
For context, an American football field is m ( ft) long.
Her walk, on 11 August , was also equivalent to the height of around 22 double-decker buses stacked on top of each other.
Amber said: “I am a freediving instructor and have been freediving for over 10 years. I wanted to do this both for my own sense of achievement - it has always been a dream of mine to hold a Guinness World Records title - and also to raise money for the Australian Marine Conservation Society in the process.”
In this incredible footage, she’s seen walking along the bottom of the pool with her hips bent so she was at a degree angle.
Her torso was flat, as if she was swimming, but it was her feet doing all the work, with her walking her way across the floor while holding her breath.
