Ellen von Unwerth wurde am Januar in Frankfurt am Main geboren. Als sie zwei Jahre alt war, starb ihre Mutter. U. wuchs in verschiedenen Waisenhäusern und bei Pflegefamilien im hessischen Laubach bei Gießen auf. Mit zehn Jahren kam sie ins Allgäu und lebte bei Oberstdorf, mit 16 Jahren zog sie zusammen mit einigen Schulfreunden in eine Kommune auf einen Bauernhof im Allgäu.
Ausbildung
In der Schule musste U. zweimal eine Klassenstufe wiederholen, machte aber dann das Abitur in Oberstdorf.
