Republican Congressman Paul Ryan has been serving as the U.S. representative of Wisconsin's Congressional District 1 since , and became the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee in January He was the chairman of the House Budget Committee from to , and is considered a fiscally conservative voice in his party. Early Life and Education

Paul Ryan is the youngest of four children born to Elizabeth Hutter and lawyer Paul Murray Ryan. His great-grandfather founded the company now known as 'Ryan Incorporated Central,' specializing in earthwork. Ryan's grandfather was appointed by Calvin Coolidge as the prosecutor of the Western District of Wisconsin.

Ryan attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Janesville, where he played on the school basketball team. He later attended Joseph A. Craig High School, where he was crowned prom king. Ryan participated in skiing, track and field, football, and basketball. He was a member of several academic and social clubs, including the Model United Nations.
